The Milwaukee Bucks lost 110-127 at the Fiserv Forum on Sunday night despite a poor performance by Damian Lillard against the Atlanta Hawks. After scoring 39 points in his Milwaukee debut on Thursday, Lillard managed just six points in the team’s opening defeat of the year.
A tough evening for Dame
The seven-time All-Star finished the first half scoreless as the Hawks took a 68-47 lead at the intermission, all but guaranteeing the win.
In the first two quarters, Lillard shot 0-for-7, including 0-of-4 from three-point range. Six of Milwaukee’s nine turnovers were also his fault.
In Milwaukee’s 118-117 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, Lillard shot 17 of 17 from the charity stripe, but he didn’t attempt a single one against the Hawks. Dame just surpassed his career-low in points (4) when he made his first shot, a three-pointer, at 3:33 of the third quarter.
With 26 points and 11 rebounds, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks in scoring. With 18 points apiece, Malik Beasley was followed in scoring by Bobby Portis Jr. with 12 and Brook Lopez with 13.
Atlanta’s explosive attacking game
With eight players scoring in double digits and a balanced assault, the Hawks, who began the season with back-to-back losses, were able to build leads of up to 31 points.
With 20 points and 11 assists, Trae Young led the Hawks in scoring. His individual double-double consisted of 12 points and 12 rebounds for Clint Capela.
Coming off the bench, Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 17 more points. Jalen Johnson, Onyeka, and De’Andre Hunter each scored fifteen points, while Saddiq Bey scored thirteen.
