It was said on Friday by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell that the league would want to see up to 16 international matchups in a season.
Before the NFL’s inaugural game in Brazil, Goodell declared, “The ownership’s approved eight games already.” At some time in the future, I want to raise that to 16. We’ll see how that turns out.
Prior to the Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles game on Friday night, which is one of the five foreign games scheduled for 2024 and the first NFL game played in South America, Goodell was interviewed on Peacock.
Three of those games are in London. October 6th’s New York Jets vs. Minnesota Vikings and October 13th’s Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Chicago Bears games will both take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. On October 20, the Jaguars and New England Patriots will play at Wembley Stadium.
On November 10, the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers will play an international game at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
The NFL has scheduled a game in Madrid in 2025; the teams and date have not yet been revealed.
The league’s owners decided in December to allow it to stage eight games abroad every season.
