According to Tampa police, it took place in the 1600 block of E 7th Ave., near Tangra Nightclub, just before three in the morning on Sunday.

According to police chief Lee Bercaw, there was a disagreement between the two groups before the event. Two people lost their lives—one at the site and the other at a nearby hospital.

Fifteen other people were transported to adjacent hospitals due to connected injuries, fifteen of which involved gunshot wounds.

Twenty victims were listed as a total in the first reports, however, that figure was later reduced.

Numerous other victims, who were between the ages of 18 and 27, received medical attention and were later discharged from the hospital.

Five are still being treated for their wounds in the hospital.

“It is tragic that families have to wake up this morning and see what happened here tonight on the news,” Bercaw remarked.

“Our hearts go out to the families involved and the victims who were involved. We have to think about them.”

Throughout the inquiry, almost forty officers were present in the area.

Elijah Wilson, Emmitt Wilson’s 14-year-old son, was shot and murdered, according to reports. Although his son was a wonderful child, he occasionally hung around with the wrong crowd, he told Spectrum News. He expressed his grief.

Wilson remarked, “You never expect this to happen.” He was one of the unfortunate victims who was shot among several others. I have to accept this defeat now.

Anyone who has footage of the event, according to Bercaw, should call the police at 813-231-6130 or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).

Businesses in the area have volunteered to share their security footage, according to Bercaw.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor wrote on X, the former Twitter platform: “Another needless death caused by those who choose to use guns to resolve a conflict. Some lives were lost, others irrevocably altered. In what way? This isn’t a law enforcement issue because the Tampa Police Department had fifty officers stationed nearby at the time.

“These nearly everyday events are caused by snap decisions gone wrong and the widespread availability of firearms. One part of this equation is within our control.”

Businesses nearby respond to the gunshot

As Tampa Police examined the scene, numerous local businesses were closed until Sunday afternoon in the middle of the afternoon.

General manager of New York New York Pizza Alicia Duffy remarked, “We were kind of just operating with a skeleton crew to get through the day.” “We shut down the front. Up until roughly 3 p.m., it was a crime scene.

Being inside the shooting crime scene and on the wrong side of the yellow tape meant that several businesses, including Duffy’s, had to remain closed for most of the day.

When they had to go from providing food to survival mode on Sunday morning at two in the morning, Duffy was there.

She remarked, “I pulled my whole staff to the back.” “You should keep people away from windows. People were screaming and attempting to get in, which is regrettable, but I just can’t… additionally, there were attempts to break in at our rear door. We’re terrified, too, even though I know others were scared.

Even though Duffy has worked at New York New York Pizza for more than ten years, he claims that the incident was the most terrifying thing that happened.

Nevertheless, she has heard gunfire pass by the store before.

Duffy declared, “There’s no getting used to it.” “If anything, just try to make sure you’re protecting the people you can protect and that you’re doing everything right.”
