Qatar and Senegal will meet in a dramatic Group A match with the loser likely to be eliminated from contention soon after the day.

Both nations lost their opening matches 2-0, although Senegal’s performance against the Netherlands deserved a better result. The African champions bossed the game for large stretches, but in the absence of injured star Sadio Mane, they were unable to capitalize on their chances.

Qatar vs Senegal Live Update, 2022 World Cup Highlights

Full Time: An hour’s time depends on the result of the Netherlands-Ecuador match. The hosts never gave up but a lack of quality in the final third cost them dearly, while Senegal slipped back into Group A contention.

90 min: We’re 6 minutes into stoppage time, but the game is decided for Qatar.

87 min: Pathé Cis goes to the book for a lunging challenge on Ismail Mohamed, and it’s a free-kick to Qatar to the right of goal. The ball is rolled for Abdelkarim Hassan, who catches the strike but fires wide of the post.

Goal! 84 min: Of course, Senegal beat Qatar this time. Bamba Dieng caught his run and got on the side of Boule Dia’s cross to beat the goalkeeper first time. Probably the best move of the game and it ends in the match.

82 min: Senegal responds to concede as they go in search of a third goal, but it’s Qatar whose pace we’re heading into the final ten minutes. Can they find another moment of inspiration?

Goal! 78 min: Qatar gets one back! In a match between Senegal’s central defenders, Mohamed Muntari had the option to capitalize on Ismail Mohamed’s pinpoint cross from Edouard Mendy’s pass. The hosts have their first World Cup goal, and they can dream again!

77 min: Another double substitution for Senegal. Pape Cisse replaces Ismail Jacobs and Nampalys replaces Mendy with Pape Sarr.

76 min: Qatar looks like they know their destiny here. They are knocking the ball around the back but for no greater purpose.

72 min: Both coaches are starting to make changes as we enter the final stages. Abdulaziz Hatem came on for Qatar a few minutes ago and now Bamba Dieng and Elliman Ndiaye are on for Senegal, while Mohamed Muntari replaces Qatar captain Hassan Al-Haydos.

69 min: With the game escalating, Nampalis Mendy sends a shot over the bar as Senegal breaks. Expect to see more in the final 20 minutes.

67 min: It’s another good stop from Edouard Mendy, who claws away Ismail Mohamed’s effort low to his right. Excellent save preserved Senegal’s two-goal cushion.

64 mins: Here’s Senegal’s first change, Pathe Ciss Krepin coming on for Diatta.

63 min: And now Eduard Mendy is called into action, pulling off a good save to his right to tip back Almoz Ali’s low effort. This is Qatar’s first goal in the tournament.

61 min: Qatar has pressed Senegal in the last few minutes and Abdelkarim Hasan opted to try his luck from 25 meters out, with the goalkeeper diving past Edouard Mendy’s left-hand post.

58 min: Qatar is trying valiantly to find a way back into it but Senegal, recent goalmouth scrambles, don’t look remotely troubled.

55 min: Chaos in the Senegal penalty area as a right-wing free-kick comes into the box, the ball falls to Abdelkarim Hassan but Almoz Ali inadvertently manages to block the shot, which doesn’t look like it’s going in at all. case

52 min: After delivering a corner for goal moments earlier, Ismail Jacobs goes in the book for a block on Ismail Mohammed as the Qatari tries to get to a pass back from the right.

Goal! 48 min: Senegal strikes again and it’s Famara Didio’s superb header that completes the trick! The forward creates some space at the near post to meet Ismail Jacobs’ right-wing corner and flicks an expert finish inside the far post. Qatar is on the sidelines now, and that’s what Senegal wants.

46 min: Senegal let us go again. They are ahead, but a potential issue with goal difference, they need to score more goals in this second half.

Halftime: Senegal has done enough to lead at the break, although it took a defensive mistake for Boule Dia to break the deadlock. Qatar has struggled to muster any sort of attacking threat and is staring down the barrel of elimination after just two games.

45+4 mins: Akram Afif looks to do something for Qatar as he crosses the ball into the penalty area. Kalidou Koulibaly heads it back, but it wasn’t good communication between the Senegal captain and his Chelsea team-mate Edward Mendy.

45+2 mins: Kalidou Koulibaly is brought down by a Homam Ahmed challenge and that’s the booking of the day.

45 mins: We’re now seven minutes into stoppage time, with the deflated hosts needing a whistle to regroup. At this point, a second Senegal goal seems more likely than Qatar’s equalizer.

Goal! 41 mins: It’s poor defending from the hosts, and they’ve been penalized. Boulem Khaukhi takes a huge swing at an attempted clearance, loses his footing, and presents the ball to Boule Diya who duly slots in to give Senegal the lead.

38 mins: Senegal has had a number of half-chances, but hasn’t done enough to really look like a goal. How long will this continue?

34 min: This is Qatar’s best moment of the game as Akram Afif bursts into the area after a good first-time passing move and goes down under a challenge from Ismaila Sir. The referee said no penalty, but that was a tough, tough call.

32 min: Boule Diya leaves a leg at Homam Ahmed, who falls awkwardly on his toes. Treatment and strapping on the left arm of the Qatar player and a yellow card for the Senegalese forward.

30 min: Meshal Barsham is sharply out as Edouard Mendy’s long clearance finds Ismaila Sarr, and the Qatar goalkeeper is lucky to have a team-mate to match after failing to get there earlier, Boulem Khaukhi turning the ball past his goalkeeper.

29 min: Qatar’s new goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham has shown a lot of willingness to come off his line to claim balls in his area, applying a good punch here. The ball falls to the edge of the area where Youssef Sabali is wide, although the flag is up in any case.

26 mins: Abdelkarim Hassan comes forward for Qatar and opts to try his luck from range, flicking Idrissa Gueye’s ball onto the bar – although no corner is awarded, much to Qatar’s chagrin.

24 min: Change of tempo for Senegal and it’s the best moment of the game so far, Idrissa Gueye driving forward and firing past the post from the edge of the penalty area.

22 mins: Still goalless but no lack of sound and color!

20 min: Ismail Mohamed brings down Boule Dia when Senegal forward goes down the left, and that’s the first yellow card of the tournament.

17 mins: Qatar had all sorts of problems at the back in their first game, but Meshaal Barsham does well to adjust here, the substitute keeper turning away Crepin Diata’s deflected cross-shot from the left. He comes a long way for the resulting corner, though, and gets nowhere near it and is lucky to see Famara flick the ball over Didio’s head.

15 mins: The hosts have certainly started better than their opening game, and here’s their first shot of the evening. Kalidou Koulibaly rises to head as far as Akram Afif, but he is unable to reach the 20m volley and cuts the ball high and wide.

12 min: The Senegal game plan looks pretty clear; Take the ball out wide. The African side has already managed to work some promising crossing positions, but without finding quality on the final ball.

8 mins: More good work from Ismaila Sir, who turns on the afterburners to put the ball down the right. His cross finds Famara Didio, who takes a touch and opts to find Nampalis Mendy rather than go himself, and the shot goes wide. Diedhiou would probably be best to try first.

5 min: It’s positive from Ismaila Sir, the Senegalese winger attacking at pace down the right and breaking into the penalty area. His cross-shot appears to deflect behind Asim Madibo, but a goal kick is awarded, much to Sir’s disbelief.

3 mins: Both sides trying to move the ball forward quickly, still unable to gain consistent possession. It needs someone to put its feet on.

Kickoff! Qatar kick us off, with neither side able to afford another defeat as they look to keep their Group A hopes alive.

5 minutes to kick-off: here come the teams; The anthem and kickoff are moments away.

Qatar vs Senegal Lineup, Team News

It will be interesting to see what changes Qatar manager Felix Sanchez makes to save face in this World Cup tournament. There are reports that the first change could come at goalkeeper, where Meshal Barsham could fill in for Saad Al-Sheeb, who struggled mightily against Ecuador.

For all his experience, playmaker Hassan Al-Haydos was another player who struggled to match the physicality and pace of the Ecuador side. Bringing him off the bench against Senegal could be justified if Qatar are to follow suit.

Qatar (5-3-2, right to left):

22-Meshal Barsham (GK) — 2. Pedro Miguel, 16-Bualem Khaukhi, 3-Abdelkarim Hassan, 15-Bassam Al-Rawi, 14-Homam Ahmed — 12- Karim Boudiaf, 6-Abdulaziz Hatim, 10-Hassan Al-Haydos-11-Akram Afif, 19-Almoz Ali

According to reports, Senegal are likely to bench Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy, and Chekhau Koyate is dealing with a muscle problem.

The team are apparently considering a move for Sheffield United’s 22-year-old Elliman Ndia, who has scored nine goals in 21 appearances in the English second tier this season. He was seen as a potential replacement for all the attacking influence that Sadio Mane had behind the forwards. With just two Senegal caps to his name, he was left on the bench against the Dutch.

Senegal (4-2-3-1, right to left):

23-Senny Dieng (GK) — 7-Youssef Sabali, 12-Pape Cisse, 3-Kalidou Koulibaly, 14-Ismail Jacobs — 6-Nampalis Mendy, 5- Idrissa Gueye – 15-Krepin Diatta, 9-Illman Ndiaye, 18-Ismaila Sarr – 21-Boulaye Dia,

With both teams losing their openers, there’s only one win here, especially for hosts Qatar, who are likely to face No. 8 seeded Netherlands in their final group game.

Senegal will start the match at the Al Thumama Stadium as favourites, especially after a strong performance in the 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands despite failing to score. Qatar lost by a single point, but looked overwhelmed by the moment and had something to prove.
