In a post on her Instagram Story after learning of the suspect's arrest on Friday, Smith, 52, expressed her need for "closure" regarding

the passing of Shakur, with whom she had a close association for many years.

Smith responded to the arrest by writing, "Now I hope we will receive some answers along with some closure." She added a dove emoji and said, "R.I.P. Pac."

The Associated Press and ABC News reported on Friday that Duane "Keffe D" Davis had been detained by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department

as a suspect in connection with the shooting death of Assata Shakur on September 13, 1996.
