Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav have been named in the Most Valuable Team of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced its Most Valuable Team of the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The names of two Indians have been released and they are Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. Overall, players from six different nations have been named in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Most Valuable Team. Champions England, runners-up Pakistan, semi-finalists India and New Zealand as well as stars from Zimbabwe and South Africa are all in the glittering line-up.

“Captain, wicketkeeper and opening batsman Jos Buttler, fellow opener Alex Hales and seamer Sam Curran all made the cut for England after helping their team win their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title,” an official statement said.

New Zealand star Glenn Phillips, India captain Virat Kohli – the tournament’s leading run scorer – Pakistan left-armer Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza have also been named in the lineup.

Batting at No. 3 is Indian superstar Kohli, who is the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 296 runs at an astonishing average of 98.66.

Kohli opened the campaign against rivals Pakistan with a decisive 82 to lead his team to a last-ball four-wicket win.

And further knocks of 64 not out against Bangladesh, 62 against the Netherlands, and 50 against England in the semi-final helped give a flavor of individual competition to one of the greatest white-ball batsmen of the modern era.

Fellow Indian Yadav is ranked No. 4 after finishing as the third-best batsman in the tournament with 239 runs overall.

Three fifties against the Netherlands – 51 not out in Sydney – 68 in South Africa – Perth and an unbeaten 61 in 25 balls in Zimbabwe – Melbourne helped his team reach the semi-finals. 189.68 in his six innings.

A selection panel comprising commentators, former international players, and journalists Ian Bishop (coordinator), Mel Jones (both commentators), Shivnarine Chandrapal (ICC Hall of Famer), Partha Bhaduri (journalist, The Times of India), pulled the team together. Indian all-rounder Pandya, who took his place as the 12th player, has starred with 128 runs and eight wickets with both bat and ball.

After scoring 63 runs against England in the semi-final, England’s dangerous middle order also took important wickets against Pakistan, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in the Super 12.
