Wales Vs Iran Live Update, 2022 World Cup Highlights
Full time: Four days after England’s dismemberment and amid unspeakable turmoil at home, here’s how Iran’s players have fared, never giving up on their quest to win. Wales drew level in the first half but did not fare so well after that. Before and after Hennessy’s red card, Bale was a long-time spectator as his teammates were defeated.
90th min+12: GOOOOAAALLLLLL!!!!! Rezaian !!!!!!!
Iran’s genius, who finally has a reward for one of their fatal breakaways. Right back Rezaeian is there, for some reason, to finish.
90th min+8: GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!!! Cheshmi!!!!!!!
Iran won! Heartbreak for Wales. A clearance falls to the substitute on the edge of the box and he finishes magnificently with a shot into the bottom corner.
90th min+6: Jahanbakhsh gets booked for a wild high boot of his own. Is Iran losing their heads because they feel they have missed an opportunity. Moore gets to their box but James can’t work the cutback.
90th minute: There will be nine extra minutes. Par for the course in this competition but it will feel like an eternity for a Wales side running on fumes.
79 min “It says something about how tense the Wales fans must be in the stadium,” begins Kerry Tullinius, “They applaud loudly for winning a throw-in near the halfway line. Enjoy the last twenty minutes!”
78 min: Wales substitute Joe Allen, who has been out since mid-September, comes on for Ethan Ampadu.
78 min: Triple substitutions for Iran After much faffing, Ali Jahanbakhsh, Mehdi Torabi, and Rouzbeh Cheshmi replace Gholidazeh, Hajisafi, and Nurollahi.
73 min: Great save by Hennessy! Wells is on edge here. Ezatolahi moves the ball away from a Wales player in the D and curls a low, right-footed drive into the far corner. Hennessy, who must have seen it late, gets down to his right and fingers it around the post.
71 min Izatolahi’s angled cross is headed wide of the far post by Pouraliganji, still high from a corner, and Hennessy is quick off his line to claim. Wells looks tired now.
68 min: Iran substitute Karim Ansarifard replaces Sardar Azmoun, who himself has run onto the field.
66 min Iran has been heavy-footed at times in this hem, and Pooraliganji leaves a bit to Moore after giving away a free-kick.
65 min Resulting corner hits an unmarked Johnson and runs to safety. Iran’s appeal for handball failed. It hit his arm, but it was close to his body. VAR is not interested.
64 min Another very dangerous break from Teremi. He runs 40 yards, with Mepham backpaddling all the way, then shifts the ball inside for a shot that is crucially blocked by the covering Ampadu.
63 minutes Taremi makes another break and slides an angled-through pass toward an unmarked Region on the right side of the area. James stretches to poke the ball back for a corner, a crucial piece of defending.
Williams’ dangerous cross on 62 minutes saves everyone in the middle.
61 minutes As the old saying goes, it’s better to be lucky than lose 1-0 in a World Cup match.
55th minute: Brennan Johnson and Dane James are ready to come on for Wales. Fighting fire with fire page. To be honest, if you were defending this heat for about an hour you probably wouldn’t encounter those two.

48 min Another dodgy square pass, this time from Ramsey, troubles Wales. It is stolen and fed to Azmoun, who is well-treated by Mepham in this area.
46 minutes Peep Peep! Iran started the second half with no changes for either side.
Half Time: Wales 0-0 Iran
“It’s hot, and Wales are a bit worried about Iran,” says BBC commentator Steve Wilson.
Wales have most of the ball but Iran are the most dangerous team on the counter attack. Ali Gholizadeh and Sardar Azmon scored excellent goals which were ruled out for offside. At the other end, Kiefer Moore’s flying volley was beaten away by Hossein Hosseini.
45+4 min The resulting free-kick ricochets dangerously around the area before being cleared. Nourollahi then struck a long-range shot that was well held by Hennessy. It was straight at him but surprisingly bounced forward.
45+3 minutes Rodon is booked for an absurd sliding foul on Taremi.
45+2 min Iran work the ball patiently down the right, until Izatolahi flicks a superb cross towards the six-yard line. Azmon and Rodon both lunge for the ball, but it evades both and bounces to safety. Ajmon was goalside, and in a split-second it looked like he was going to score.
45 minutes there will be four more minutes.
43 minutes Corner is claimed with authority by Hossein Hosseini.
40 minutes Free-kick to Iran, 40 yards out. Hajisafi overhits it a bit and it goes behind for a goalkick. Both teams look ready to take a breather.
30 minutes Bale, so far unmarked, got past Hosseini with a long-range volley
24 min Williams limps heavily after being fouled by Rezaian. It wasn’t a particularly malicious foul, and it was Region who alerted the referee so he could stop the game.
No goals! Wales 0-0 Iran
As disallowed goals go, it was a beauty. Roberts’ dodgy square pass was met by Gholizadeh, who played a dizzying exchange of one, two, three, four – passes with Azmon before the ball went into the net. But when the final pass was played, Gholizadeth was slightly – and unnecessarily – offside. Ajmon could have taken the shot himself.
Goal! Wales 0-1 Iran (Gholizadeh 16)
VAR permitting, this is a great goal from Iran!
13 min Moore sits down briefly, but is back on his feet after receiving treatment.
12 mins: Great save by Hosseini! Davies sprays a crossfield pass out to Roberts, who pulls it down and shapes a beautiful cross towards the near post. Moore stabs a smooth volley straight at Hossein Hosseini, who takes it away. To add to Moore’s suffering, Majid Hosseini kicked him in the face.
9 min Iran’s front two, Taremi and Azmon, look really dangerous. A give-and-go effort was thwarted by a sliding Wales defender on the edge of the area.
7 mins Azmon pulls a daisy cutter past Hennessy from 20 yards. Iran looks brilliant in attack.
5 minutes a long ball towards Ajmon was well defended by Mefan, who headed back towards Hennessy.
3 minutes Wilson plays a simple ball to Neko Williams, who cuts inside and whistles a good long-range shot over the bar. Hosseini isn’t in trouble but it’s a positive start for Wales.
1 minute beep beep! Wales moves from left to right as we look. They are in red; Iran is wearing white.
It’s time for football. A draw is not the end of the World Cup for either team, but both really need a win.
