Cristiano Ronaldo has been making headlines before and during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

First, his public exit from Manchester United leaves half the 2022/23 season to play.

Now a free agent, he is tipped to join Saudi Arabian side Al Nasser in January in a stunning deal worth around €200 million ($211.4 million) per season.

Meanwhile, his latest mini-tantrum at the World Cup followed the benching of the 37-year-old and his hat-trick as a 21-year-old replacement in the Portugal national team.

After Portugal made a deep run at the tournament in Qatar, Ronaldo is still hoping to play a key role as he and his country seek their first World Cup title in their fifth and final FIFA international tournament.

Has Cristiano Ronaldo Won World Cup?

The World Cup is one of the few major titles that Ronaldo has eluded in his illustrious career with his first major trophy with Portugal at Euro 2016.

He came closest to his first World Cup in 2006, when Portugal reached the semi-finals, losing 1-0 to France. They will lose to Germany in the third-place match for fourth place. Ronaldo scored only one goal in that World Cup.

They also made the semi-finals again in 2012, but Spain earned the coveted final spot on penalties. Portugal coach Paulo Bento was criticized for leaving Ronaldo fifth in the penalty shootout order, eventually leaving him on the sidelines and not taking a spot-kick in Portugal’s 4–2 shootout defeat.

In 2010, Ronaldo and Portugal were eliminated by Spain in the round of 16, and the 2018 loss to Uruguay suffered a similar result.
