Ten people, including two in critical condition, were shot in a drive-by shooting on a Lakeland, Florida, street Monday, police said.
The shooting happened at 3:43 p.m. when the dark blue Nissan sedan had four windows rolled down and people fired shots from each window, Police Chief Sam Taylor said.
He said that people on both sides of the road were killed.
“We have reason to believe this was a targeted incident, this was not a random act,” Taylor said at a news conference Monday evening.
Officers found three people shot, Taylor said. He said that seven others were taken to the hospital by private vehicles or were shown there for treatment.
The shooters were described as males between the ages of 20 and 35.
Two people were in critical condition — one of whom was shot in the abdomen, and the other who was shot in the face and jaw area, Taylor said.
He said that there was no danger to the lives of the other eight people.
The vehicle was a dark blue Nissan four-door sedan, Taylor said. The windows were rolled down and the people inside started shooting, he said.
The police said that the investigation is going on on Monday.
Lakeland is a city of about 112,000 about 30 miles east of Tampa.
