UFC legend Jose Aldo is hoping to get a crack at undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. later this year.

During a recent interview with MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz, the former UFC Featherweight Champion revealed that he is in talks with Mayweather’s team for an exhibition bout with the undefeated boxer.

‘Junior’ further clarified that the bout had already been verbally agreed upon by both parties:

“His side has already agreed, my side too, we are now waiting for the (promoters) deal to be done. [Transcript via MMA Fighting]”
Although the two will face off in an exhibition fight, Aldo suggested he is taking it as seriously as any other pro event:

“It may be an exhibition on (Mayweather’s) side, but not for me. It’s a punch in the face like always. He knows it.”
Earlier this Friday, the mixed martial arts legend made his pro-boxing debut with flying colors, earning a unanimous decision victory over Emmanuel Zambrano at Shooto Boxing in Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian is already gearing up for his second boxing bout against former UFC foe Jeremy Stephens at the upcoming Gamebred Boxing 4 event on April 1.

Floyd Mayweather, meanwhile, has been part of a number of lucrative exhibition bouts since retiring from the sport in 2017. In his most recent fight, ‘Money’ made light work of YouTuber Deji Olatunji by scoring a sixth-round TKO.

Interestingly, Mayweather’s last pro fight was against UFC superstar Conor McGregor, which he won via TKO.

When Floyd Mayweather Said MMA Was For “Beer Drinkers”

Although Floyd Mayweather has fought MMA’s biggest superstar, Conor McGregor, during his boxing career, ‘Money’ doesn’t give much importance to the sport of mixed martial arts.

During a promotional event for his 2009 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather discredited MMA by saying that it was a sport for “beer drinkers”. According to him, mixed martial arts are not suitable for humans: “To be in the sport of boxing requires perfect skill, and mixed martial arts is for beer drinkers, boxing is for everybody. … My Means you can’t take my shoes off and take off my shirt and throw me in a cage. You do that to animals, you don’t do that to humans.”
