Hospital officials said at an initial news briefing that the condition of five people injured in Monday night’s shooting at Michigan State University remained serious as of Tuesday morning.
In Lansing E.W. Dr. Denny Martin, interim president and chief medical officer of Sparrow Hospital, broke down as he spoke about the hospital staff’s reaction to the shooting.
“Four of those persons required surgical intervention. One was not and was taken to the critical care unit after being triaged,” he said.
He praised the hospital staff for providing prompt care. Martin said, “We got a lot of messages that were simply, ‘I’m on my way,’ showing people where they need to be.” “It was a sad but very proud night for all of us here.”
The identities of the five injured have not yet been released.
