While their Republican counterparts continue to actively seek evidence to support a potential impeachment investigation, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee are getting ready to actively defend President Joe Biden.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the House Republicans are adamant that formal impeachment proceedings should begin after the House Oversight, Ways and Means, and Judiciary Committees completed their investigations. With a robust response operation currently in place, Democrats are prepared to refute that narrative.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the ranking member on the Oversight Committee, reportedly held several strategy sessions with his fellow Democrats over the course of the year, including one on Sunday night where Raskin rallied the troops and warned them to get ready for a bloody battle, according to a source directly familiar with the Committee’s work.

According to the Constitution, treason, bribery, and other serious offenses are required for impeachment. According to a source in the room, Raskin responded, “They don’t have anything like that. The motivation for this, of course, is to carry out Donald Trump’s political orders.

Raskin, who was in charge of managing the second impeachment trial for Trump, is quoted as saying that the president “could not handle the fact that he’s going to be running contrary to someone for president if he, Trump, has two impeachments in opposition to him for the first time in American history.” And Biden hasn’t been impeached. Therefore, he is essentially telling them to impeach him.

Raskin informed the audience that Democrats could not afford to wait for the Republicans to initiate conversation; rather, it was their responsibility to take the initiative and refute any claims made by the Republicans that were either untrue or misrepresented.

“‘More evidence’ is not necessary. They’ve been able to obtain heaps of proof, and there has been a massive amount of evidence, the insider claimed. Just that the evidence doesn’t support their desired conclusion.

A document summarizing the Raskin-led group’s argument that the Republican probes have fallen short of their high expectations was released on Monday morning. The 14-page dossier disproves numerous significant assertions made by Republicans regarding the president, his son Hunter, and potential links between the president and his son’s business affairs point by point. There is no indication that the president himself is under investigation, according to the special counsel’s office in charge of the federal investigation into Hunter Biden, which said it intended to seek a grand jury indictment later this month. The president has stated numerous times that he had no involvement in any of his son’s businesses.

Raskin calls the GOP-led investigation in the document a “total bust” and a “epic flop.” The Democrats’ intention to be confrontational in their defense of the President is hinted at by the rhetoric they used.

Rep. Robert Garcia reportedly said, “They’re grasping at straws,” during the secret meeting. “[Let’s] be on the attack, be tough, refute every untruth, you know, […] make sure that people are aware that—that ultimately, this is all political. All eyes are on Donald Trump.

Republican opinion is considerably different. They contend that the recent Democratic surge is proof that their probe was successful.

“The Oversight Committee has an obligation to continue to follow this pattern of corruption & hold President Biden accountable for misusing public office for the financial benefit of his family,” stated Jessica Collins, a representative for the Oversight Committee Republicans in a statement to NBC News. “Unfortunately, Democrats would rather represent Joe Biden’s family than serve the interests of the American people. We’ll keep working to provide Americans the accountability and transparency they deserve.

And the GOP campaign is still going strong. The three committees overseeing the investigation are currently conducting a series of recorded, behind-closed-door interviews with a group of FBI as well as IRS investigators who they believe have firsthand knowledge of the IRS whistleblowers’ allegations that the investigation into Hunter Biden received preferential treatment. The accusations have been refuted by Special Counsel David Weiss, a U.S. Attorney appointed by Trump.

Republicans are moving ahead, but they have not yet presented the information that would connect the president, a point Democrats intend to emphasize as much as they can.

Rep. Daniel Goldman, D-N.Y., remarked on the private call, according to a source in the conference, “Their real problem is the fact that mountain of information fails to demonstrate any wrongdoing by President Biden, which many Republicans in both chambers have acknowledged.” “Based on the evidence gathered over the last eight months or to obtain more information, there is no support for an impeachment inquiry, but Speaker McCarthy is desperate to appease Marjorie Taylor Greene along with other far-right Republicans with a half-baked impeachment inquiry intended to do Donald Trump’s political bidding.”

The conference is not united, despite demands from a number of conservative Republicans, such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, for McCarthy to launch an impeachment investigation as soon as possible. Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado stated, “At this point, there is not a strong connection between the proof on Hunter Biden and any proof connecting the president,” in an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Sunday. He urged his party to continue concentrating on issues like inflation, crime, and border security.

A White House insider familiar with the plan told NBC News last week that the White House had established its own war room consisting of two dozen lawyers, legislative aides, and communications employees to spearhead an aggressive response to any impeachment inquiry.
