According to authorities, the Texas woman accused of killing a pro cyclist last year attempted to flee detention on Wednesday.
In connection with the shooting death of Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson, 25, in Austin in May 2022, Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, 35, is accused of murder. She has entered a not-guilty plea.
Armstrong was driven to a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday, and when she was being led out, “she ran,” according to Travis County Sheriff spokeswoman Kristen Dark.
She managed to travel about a half-block. She claimed that our prison officers never lost track of her. Armstrong was restrained after being caught up to by two prison officers. Within ten minutes, the incident came to fruition.
She was transferred to a nearby hospital for examination, was found to be in good health, and was then brought back to the jail.
She will be charged further, according to Dark, for attempting to flee. Her online booking details weren’t updated with the increased fees as of Thursday morning.
Armstrong’s lawyer has been contacted by NBC News for comment.
On May 11, 2022, Wilson, a gravel racer and mountain biker, was discovered shot multiple times in a residence in Austin. She had come to Texas to compete in a race at Hico, which is near Fort Worth.
Armstrong left the nation using a fake passport a week after Wilson was discovered dead. She was apprehended in Costa Rica and returned to the United States to answer the accusations.
Authorities claim that elite cyclist Colin Strickland, whom Armstrong and Wilson were romantically involved with, was the same person.
According to an arrest affidavit, Armstrong and Strickland had been dating for roughly three years before taking a break. Wilson and Strickland started dating during that period.
Wilson visited Austin in late October and early November of last year, and Strickland admitted to having a “brief romantic relationship” with Wilson during that time to the Austin-American Statesman. According to Strickland, they had both recently concluded prior relationships. One month later, he and Armstrong got back together.
According to the affidavit, an unnamed acquaintance claimed to have been with Armstrong in January when she discovered Strickland and Wilson were dating. Armstrong “became enraged and was shaking with rage,” according to the buddy.
