
The two biggest winners at the annual Latin Grammy Awards were Shakira and Karol G.
At the 24th edition of the show, which honors accomplishments in the Latin music industry, the two took home three awards apiece.
“I find it astounding that it has impacted the lives of so many others,” declared Karol G upon receiving the album of the year award.
The ceremony, which took place in Seville, Spain, was held for the first time outside of the United States.
Shakira won both Pop Song of the Year and song of the Year for Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53. Best urban/fusion performance went to her and Karol G’s joint song, TQG.
The Colombian pop sensation said, “I have promised them I will be happy,” in dedicating her awards to her kids.
She mentioned “tough moments” as well, maybe alluding to her breakup with football player Gerard Pique and problems with her Spanish tax situation.
“My Spanish audience, who has supported me through both good and bad times, is another audience I would like to share this with.
“In those challenging and difficult moments that I’ve encountered here in this country, I loved so much but at no point has stopped giving me love & support.”
“Happy to have a few of those who joined up” with me at the show, expressed fellow Colombian celebrity Karol G.
“This is a very unique album that shifted my life,” she stated.
Rosalia, a Spanish singer-songwriter, performed a stirring tribute to the art of flamenco to start the show, but she was unsuccessful in winning anything.
Laura Pausini was the only artist of non-Iberian descent to win Person of the Year, marking another historical first.
