An active-duty Marine was arrested in connection with the death of her 4-month-old baby in Jacksonville, North Carolina, police said Friday.
Christian Mark McGill, 23, who is the father of a 4-month-old, was charged with an open count of murder and processed without bond in the Onslow County Jail, the Jacksonville Police Department said in a statement Friday.
Police and other emergency personnel responded to a medical call scene at an apartment in Jacksonville on Dec. 22 and performed life-saving measures on the unresponsive 4-month-old, according to the statement.
Paramedics with Onslow County Emergency Medical Services pronounced the child dead at the scene, the release said.
The Jacksonville Police Department investigated the infant’s death and then arrested McGill, according to the statement. Investigators were working with the local district attorney’s office and the Naval Criminal Investigative Services, due to McGill’s status as an active-duty Marine, the statement said.
Naval Criminal Investigative Services confirmed that McGill, who is an active-duty Marine lance corporal, was arrested Friday in connection with the homicide investigation. The agency said it is working with local authorities on the investigation.
