Despite his fame as an entertainer, Elvis Presley‘s relationship with Priscilla Presley generated a great deal of curiosity on its own.
Their narrative has been told on screen multiple times, and it will soon be told once again in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, which opens in theaters on November 3. The film centers on Mrs. Presley. Based on Priscilla’s 1985 biography Elvis and Me, the movie stars Jacob Elordi as Elvis & Cailee Spaeny as the title character.
The actresses who have portrayed Priscilla Presley are listed here, starting with Season Hubley’s portrayal opposite Kurt Russell in 1979’s Elvis and ending with Cailee Spaeny’s contemporary interpretation.
‘Priscilla’ starring Cailee Spaeny (2023)
The most recent actress to assume the role of the matriarch of the Presley family is Cailee Spaeny. During the film’s world premiere in September at the Venice Film Festival, Spaeny talked candidly about her experience viewing the movie with the real-life character she played.
The Hollywood Reporter quoted Spaeny as saying, “I think the thing which was most touching to me, yet terrifying [was] to be watching the movie with Priscilla Presley right next to me.”
She went added, “But at the end, I believe she felt really moved by it,” referring to Priscilla’s response to the movie. “That was a great performance, and that was my first time hearing that, which was — it’s just been absolutely surreal,” she added, looking at me.
‘Elvis’ (2022) starring Olivia De Jonge
Olivia DeJonge portrayed Priscilla in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 Elvis biopic, which took place during Austin Butler’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of The King. Similar to the film from 2023, Priscilla herself made glowing views about it on Good Morning America, saying, “As I watch this movie, I can’t help but wish that my husband could see it. It was flawless.”
In the sit-down, DeJonge also joined Priscilla, who acknowledged that although it is “strange” to have someone play her, she was pleased with the portrayal.
“I’m so happy because she was sensitive as well as that she was caring so that she was a little tough with him as well, and as you know, I believed she did a really, excellent job, I was really surprised,” said Priscilla.
DeJonge referred to hearing Priscilla’s assessment of her performance as a “huge relief.”
“Within my research, it was so obvious the amount of love and care as well as sensitivity that was there, and I’m very glad that it came through,” she said.
Antonia Bernath in the 2005 film “Elvis”
Actress Antonia Bernath played Priscilla alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ Elvis in the 2005 Emmy-nominated drama Elvis. Robert Patrick as Vernon Presley, Rose McGowan as Ann-Margret, Randy Quaid as Tom Parker, and Camryn Manheim as Gladys Presley all starred in the film, which followed the singer’s early years and ascent to prominence.
‘Elvis & Me’ (1988) starring Susan Walters
The 2023 film Priscilla is by no means the first to adapt the memoir from 1985. In the 1988 miniseries of the same name, Dale Midkiff played Elvis and Susan Walters played Priscilla.
Hubley in the 1979 film “Elvis”
Kurt Russell plays the “Jailhouse Rock” performer in the 1979 television film Elvis, and Season Hubley plays Priscilla. Because of its positive reviews, the movie was nominated for three Emmy awards, including Best Television Movie and outstanding lead actor in a Limited Series or special for Russell’s performance. It also garnered a Golden Globe nomination.
