Early on Wednesday, it appeared that Donald Trump Jr.’s account on the social media network formerly known as Twitter had been compromised.

According to screenshots, one tweet erroneously claimed that the previous president Donald Trump had passed away.

“I regret to inform you that my father, Donald Trump, passed away. In 2024, I’ll be running for president, the tweet announced. Later in the morning, the former president posted an unrelated message on Truth Social, appearing to demonstrate that he was still alive.

Several other tweets contained racist slurs, the words “F— Joe Biden,” the phrases “North Korea is about to get smoked” and “When I become president, I’m going to burn the SEC.”

Wednesday morning, Eric Trump, the brother of Donald Trump Jr., sarcastically tweeted: “What was @donaldtrumpjr password? Don2024?”

The hacked tweets looked to have been removed as of 9:45 a.m. ET.

Andrew Surabian, a spokesman for Donald Trump, tweeted on Wednesday that “Don’s account has been hacked,” and included a link to a post that has since been taken down.
