The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards will take place next month, and Shakira will get the Video Vanguard Award. Beyoncé, Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyoncé have all received awards in the past.
For the first time in 17 years, she will be performing on the VMA stage.
Four VMAs have been won by the Colombian singer during the course of her career, beginning with her victory in the International Viewer’s Choice (Latin America North) in 2000.
She is up for four awards this year, including Artist of the Year, best collaboration (for “XQG,” with Karol G), and two nominations in the Best Latin category (for the aforementioned collaboration with Karol G and for her solo single, “Acróstico”).
“Shakira is a true global force who inspires & influences the masses with her distinctive musical prowess,” says one observer. She is a trailblazer for women everywhere and one of the pioneers of Latin music’s globalization, according to Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming, and events at Paramount and chief content officer of music at Paramount+. “As she keeps producing and entertaining at the highest level, her enormous impact on the musical landscape will be long-lasting.”
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards nominations are led by Taylor Swift. She is in first place with eight, followed by SZA, who has six, for her “Anti-Hero” music video and a nomination in the artist of the year category.
On September 12th, the VMAs will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
