Beginning a pivotal week for his campaign, President Joe Biden worked to quell mounting criticism from fellow Democrats who are calling for him to withdraw from the race.
Speaking on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday, the president declared that he had been elected by the people and challenged his Democratic opponents to a race at the party’s convention in August.
With a sarcastic tone, Biden remarked, “I’m starting to lose it with the party’s elites. They have far greater knowledge” “If any of these guys think that I shouldn’t run, then run against me.” Proceed now. Declare your candidacy for president and take on me in the convention!
Additionally, Biden acknowledged that some of the party’s worries about his reelection attempt were made in “good faith” in a letter to Democrats in Congress on Monday.
If I didn’t firmly think that I was the most qualified opponent of Donald Trump in 2024, I wouldn’t be running for office again, Biden wrote. “We held a Democratic nomination process, and the electorate made their voice heard loud and clear.”
“The Democratic Party nominee is decided by the voters and the voters alone,” he continued.
“For more than a week, there has been much discussion about how to proceed. And it’s time to put an end to it. We just have one task. Moreover, Biden stated, “That is to defeat Donald Trump.” “Any waning of determination or ambiguity regarding the task head serves Trump and harms us.”
The letter was received by offices on Monday, according to a senior Democratic staffer. This is the first time that Congress has convened after recess since the Biden-Trump debate in Atlanta on June 27. The entire letter was also posted on Instagram by Biden.
As per a campaign official, Biden is anticipated to speak with additional lawmakers this week, following his meetings with 20 last week. These lawmakers include Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D.C.; House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D.C.; Reps. Nancy Pelosi, D.C.; and James E. Clyburn, D.S.C. Biden wants to reassure Democrats that he is paying attention to their concerns.
A list of well-known Democrats urging Biden to withdraw from the race was presented to him on “Morning Joe,” and he stated he wasn’t worried.
Biden remarked, “I disagree with what those well-known people think.” “In 2020, they were in error. Regarding the red wave in 2022, they were mistaken. It’s incorrect in 2024.
“I’m not going to stop,” Biden declared.
In his defense of Trump, Biden asserted that America will triumph over the far right, just as France did in the most recent election.
“This man is an extreme contender. The president declared, “I have never seen a candidate who has been more radical in my lifetime. “He gives George Wallace a patriot’s appearance.”
