Group F culminated in the 2022 World Cup, with both Canada and Morocco looking to win for very different reasons.
Les Rouges – making their return to the World Cup after a 36-year absence – know after defeats against Belgium and Croatia, their journey ends here. But John Herdman’s fighters will be desperate to sign off in style having created memories that will last them for the next four years until the tournament co-hosts in 2026.
Morocco, meanwhile, is still very much in the hunt for this year’s action and can secure a place in the knockout stages with a win.
An impressive 2-0 win over Belgium has put them in the driving seat to potentially qualify as group winners, but they cannot afford any slip-ups with Belgium breathing down their necks.

Canada vs Morocco Live Updates, 2022 World Cup Highlights
Full-Time: Canada 1 – 2 Morocco
87th minute: Alas, a near disaster for Morocco goalkeeper Yassin Bonou, when he has the ball from his chest hidden by Alphonso Davies in his hands, but he collects it in the end without doing any harm. That was an adventure.
84th minute: The fourth booking for a Canada player goes to Steven Vitoria who hands Hamdallah in the face. No intention, just accidental, but he can’t do that.
Morocco head coach Walid Regragui will use his last sub to save star Achraf Hakimi, who has been dropped for Yahya Jabarane.
80th minute: Atiba Hutchinson’s brilliant tackle dispossessed Abderrazak Hamdallah at the top of the penalty area to end Morocco’s break. Sofiane Amrabat was the architect, springing Hamdallah through the middle, but the striker failed to get a shot off before the Canadian captain bravely and accurately stepped up.
76th minute: More subs for both sides as Canada brings on David Wotherspoon for his World Cup debut in place of Junior Hoilett to end his membership. Hakim Ziyech has been dropped for Morocco, and replaced by Jawad El Yamik, while Abderrazak replaces Hamdallah Ezzedine Onahi.
76th minute: More subs for both sides, replacing Junior Hoilett with David Wotherspoon making his first World Cup appearance as Canada ends their subs. Hakim Ziyech has been dropped for Morocco, replaced by Jawad El Yamik, while Abderrazak replaces Hamdallah Ezzedine Onahi.
72nd minute: Chance, Canada! How did it not go in! At a corner, Atiba Hutchinson’s high header hits the crossbar, goes straight down, and lands on the line, but not over. Then Alistair Johnson’s follow-up loops just inches into the top right corner.
What a goal it would have been for a player who meant so much to the Canadian side, but it wasn’t to be. So close for Canada, who continue to look for their first World Cup point. Maybe that will energize Les Rouges for these final 18 minutes?

65th minute: More changes are made as Sofiane Boufal and Abdelhamid Sabiri come on for Morocco, while Zakaria Aboukhlal and Selim Amallah come on. Canada makes another change, Richie Laria comes on for Jonathan Osorio.
Ismaël Koné has looked great, again. He again looks unafraid of the occasion. Just gliding on the ball

He NEEDS to be a #CanMNT starter in 2023
If you’re #CFMTL, you’ve got to leave a blank cheque on the table and just let teams wrestle over what figure to put on it post-WC
Meanwhile, it remained goalless in the next match, which would shock Belgium from the World Cup. The Red Devils missed a number of chances, some through Romelu Lukaku who came on as a substitute.
60th minute: On the hour mark, Herdman completes three changes. Sam Adekugbe, Cyle Larin, and Atiba Hutchinson all come in, along with Atiba Hutchinson, Jonathan David and Ismael Cone. It looks like a schematic switch.
56th minute: Chance, Canada! On the free-kick, Alphonso Davies delivered a great ball to Syle Larin at the far post, but the Canadian striker couldn’t get to it. Fantastic delivery.
John Hardman is preparing his captain Atiba Hutchinson for his next national team appearance, which will be his 101st cap. It’s probably more about what the player means to the national team than anything else, allowing him to finish his World Cup on the field, knowing there’s nothing concrete to play for.
54th minute: There is a bit of a stoppage to replace the ball which is clearly flat.
51st minute: It’s been a good start to the second half, almost like the start of the game. Both sides are feeling each other out, with a few fouls and good runs but nothing dangerous. Canada is controlling more possession but still has more to do.
46th minute: Canada stepped things up in the second half. No changes for either side, as three Canadians are playing on yellow cards.
Halftime: Canada 1-2 Morocco
Morocco was good for almost that entire half, but Canada came back against the run of play to give them some life. Both sides will be comfortable with a draw, as it would send Morocco off and give Canada its first World Cup point, but Morocco is clearly aiming to win the group. They have been extraordinary, admitting only to an ominous deviation.
Meanwhile, some ticketing issues have emerged outside the stadium, with large numbers of fans unable to enter Al Thumama Stadium.

48th minute: Chance, Morocco! The African side looked to have restored their two-goal lead before the break, but the flag was up. There is a review, and on replay, it appears that Naif Aguirre was offside and interfering with goalkeeper Milan Borjan in the attempt. The one with the En-Nesyri explosion, is an impressive one, but it won’t count.

45+2 min: Sam Adekugbe is shown a yellow card for a late cut on Achraf Hakimi with his studs. eligible The third yellow shown to a Canadian player after Junior Hoilett and Jonathan Osorio.
40th minute: Goal to Canada! Out of nothing, it’s a distracting own goal, and Canada is back in the game! Sam Adekugbe’s cross knifed off Aguirre’s leg as the defender moved to block it and instead he hit the back of the net. The CONCACAF nation only celebrated the goal, instead wanting play to resume soon.

35th minute: The game is stopped for a significant time, and no one can figure out why. The official is talking at length to the fourth official on the touchline and some kind of executive in a suit. Maybe a technical problem? Unclear, but the game has stopped. Eventually, Canada pulled things back from the goal kick, with no explanation as to what had happened. A pause of about two minutes.
Herdman has made a tactical change since the break, with Davies now playing as a central striker alongside Cyle Larin, and Junior Hoilett moving wide right.
Davies playing centrally for Canada now to try and drive play sitting a bit deeper behind Larin.

Hoilett taking on the right midfield role, while Buchanan continues on the left.
There’s an idea here, but it’s not working very well.
33rd minute: Chance, Morocco! On a cut delivery down the right flank, the ball comes loose in the penalty area and Bouffle almost gets there, but Johnston makes a key block and Morocco is then called for a foul to ease the pressure.
30th minute: Canada, who have made their calling card with speed, energy, and enthusiasm, are very slow in this game, pinging the ball around the defense aimlessly without any sort of attacking impetus. You wonder if they are completely out of gas after two very tough games on the group stage. They are playing a very high line defensively, and Morocco is using pace and pinpoint deliveries to beat it.
23rd minute: Goal to Morocco! It’s too far now for Canada, which is still being penalized for a primary mistake. It’s just a simple long ball for Youssef N-Nesiri, and while he’s blanketed by two Canadian defenders, he somehow finds the opportunity to shoot from a tight angle, producing a fine finish with a perfect angle inside the far post.
Anyway, that’s N-Nessiri’s first shot of the tournament, as a Moroccan striker, and he buries it.

15th minute: Chance, Canada! Cylle Laryn comes close to meeting Tajon Buchanan at the far post, but it’s just out of reach! Larin did well on the right side of the penalty area to send a lateral ball for his strike partner, but Buchanan was unable to clear it with his sliding effort.

13th minute: After a brutal start, things have now settled down for Canada, who are beginning to possess more of the ball. They are still very loose with their passes, and this has generated few chances on the break for Morocco. This Canada team has excelled this World Cup relative to expectations, but bad mistakes have been their downfall.
7th minute: Junior Hoilett is booked for a late foul on Azzedine Onahi, who gave Morocco a good free-kick chance, but it blasted straight over the wall and out for a corner.
4th minute: Goal to Morocco! This is a catastrophic error from the Canadian defender and goalkeeper! First, Steven Vitoria dropped a terrific back-pass to keeper Milan Borjan at short notice. This forced Borjan to come out of his net to clear the ball at the top of the penalty area, but instead he passed it straight to Hakim Ziyech, and he buried the 40-yard chance into an open net.
Borjan beat N-Nessiri with a back-pass, but instead of clearing the ball he passed straight to Ziyech. What a nightmare!

2nd minute: Interestingly, wingers Alphonso Davies and Tajon Buchanan both start the game in reverse, Davies on the right and Buchanan on the left. Davies is mostly a left winger for both club Bayern Munich and his country.
Canada started pressing high, but Morocco found Boufal in front of the net from deep on their right on a direct attack. Great defensive header from Alastair Johnston.
1st minute: The national anthem is over, and we’re taking place at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar!
Canada vs Morocco lineup, team news
Herdman could be without Stephen Eustaquio as he hopes to sign off with a strong performance in Qatar.
He is unlikely to make sweeping changes with Sam Adekugbe and Jonathan Osorio likely to start after coming off the bench in the previous two games, while 39-year-old Cap centurion Atiba Hutchinson could move to the bench.
Canada starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): 2. Johnston, 5. Vitoria, 4. Miller, 3. Adekugbe — 10. Hoilett, 14. Kaye, 21. Osorio — 11. Buchanan, 17. Larin , 19. Davis.
Morocco head coach Walid Regragui is likely to stick with an unchanged starting lineup, with fullback duo Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui both fit, but first-choice goalkeeper Yassin Bouno is certain to miss out after withdrawing at the last minute before Belgium’s win.
Morocco’s predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): 12. Mohammadi — 2. Hakimi, 5. Aguird, 6. Sais, 3. Mazraoui — 8. Onahi, 4. Amrabat, 15. Amallah — 7. Ziyech , 19. An-Nesiri, 17. Boufal
