In order to check 25 of its aircraft, which will be out of service for a few days, Spirit Airlines announced that it is suspending flights.
The low-cost carrier announced in a statement that it would “perform an essential inspection of a tiny portion of 25 of our aircraft.” Without going into more information, Spirit stated that it was acting “out of an abundance of caution” in taking that action.
The airline predicted that restoring the normal operation of its network would take many days.
As of October 1st, the Florida-based airline reported having 202 aircraft. FlightAware, a service that tracks flights, reports that Spirit canceled 98 flights on Friday or 11% of its total scheduled flights.
Prior to leaving for the airport, Spirit advised passengers with scheduled flights to check their email as well as the company’s website and app.
