After the Diamondbacks’ thrilling NLCS Game 7 triumph over the Phillies, sports talk radio and TV listeners nationwide anxiously awaited the news of Chris “Mad Dog” Russo’s potential retirement in the event that Arizona won the series.

Russo made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM on Wednesday morning in order to clarify his audacious declaration and renegotiate the conditions of his wager.

At first, Stern had a far more crass suggestion for Russo to consider instead of retiring. However, the veteran shock jock thought of a flamboyant act that would both satisfy the crowd and humiliate Russo in the interest of public decency.

Why not try this? I’ll travel to Manhattan for this, so you come to my show, and we’ll put you in a bikini, okay? stated Stern. “And you hold a sign that reads, ‘I’m a douche,’ and you stroll down the street.” People will say, “Okay, it’s all right—Mad Dog is suffering,” if you do that.

Not unexpectedly, given the options put out to Russo, he consented to Stern’s demands.

Russo answered, “That’s a little more reasonable.” That seems a bit reasonable. I can live with that one. It’s not the worst concept.

Since Stern noted that Russo was never actually going to retire, this solution would satisfy supporters and make sports media observers forget about the audacious proclamation made by the radio star.

Russo ultimately worked to change the wording on the sign to “liar and dope,” which is less offensive than “douche.” But shame won’t be the only aspect of the award. To further demonstrate his kindness, Russo promised to donate to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.
