Ryan Reynolds takes a break from his usual cynicism to pay his wife, Blake Lively, a rare and heartfelt homage.
On her 36th birthday, on August 25, the 46-year-old actor got a break from hilariously teasing his wife of almost 11 years. Reynolds posted a collection of images of Lively, including a number of endearing couple selfies, “The only thing absolutely mine in the world is the love and gratitude and wonder I feel for this person.
The mother of four can be seen in one of the images enjoying what appears to be a romantic beachfront date night while sporting a sheer lace mini-dress and a black bandeau top. I couldn’t possibly take witnessing her live for granted, Reynolds continued. And I try, believe me. Thank you for following Blakelively. You hung the moon, damn you.
Fans were taken aback by the post’s true sweetness given their history of making fun of one another on social media, particularly on their birthdays. In response to the post, one fan wrote, “Wait actual normal pictures.” Are you alright?
This retort presumably alludes to the incident in 2017 when Reynolds cut Lively out of a picture on her own birthday. Lively later responded by sharing a picture of Barbie hunk Ryan Gosling on her spouse’s birthday a few months later. The following year, Reynolds posted a number of images showing Lively startled by the camera. Reynolds neglected to post something on Lively’s birthday in 2020, so he celebrated his dog’s birthday in September of that year. Lively made a joke in the comments at the time, saying, “This is almost exactly the same as the birthday post you did for me this year.”
Reynolds’ charming recent post, on the other hand, feels blatantly out of character, raising the levity of some of his Instagram followers’ concerns. Fans left comments like, “Ryan’s definitely being held at gunpoint by Blake because there’s no other explanation he didn’t even submit a horrible image,” and “Is your account hacked? You’ve shared only the best pictures?
How long will this unplanned truce on Instagram last? We’ll probably have to wait until October 23—Ryan Reynolds’ birthday—to find out how Blake Lively performs.
