In what authorities described as a deliberate shooting on Thursday night, a man shot and killed one Dallas police officer while injuring two others.
Following the shootings, Corey Cobb-Bey, 30, attacked pursuing policemen with a shotgun and was shot and killed in a hail of bullets, according to authorities on Friday.
Cobb-Bey pulled into the parking lot of a community organization in the Dallas neighborhood of Oak Cliff just after 10 p.m. local time, according to authorities.
Cobb-Bey approached Officer Darron Burks, who was parked there between call assignments, a few minutes later, they spoke via the driver’s side window. Cobb-Bey, according to the police, captured the interaction on camera.
According to authorities, Cobb-Bey then produced a firearm and shot Burks to death.
Something strange was picked up by a police dispatcher from Burks’ radio communication. Police said that the dispatcher sent officers to check on Burks after making unsuccessful attempts to get in touch with him.
Cobb-Bey removed a shotgun from his car and put it on Burks’ squad car’s roof while this was going on, according to the police.
When Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer came into the parking lot at 10:11 p.m., and Cobb-Bey’s weapon opened firing, according to the police.
The farmer fired back and took off fleeing. According to the authorities, Cobb-Bey shot Farmer in the leg.
Senior Cpl. Karissa David showed up about a minute later and parked her squad car at the front of the parking lot. As David got out of the car, Cobb-Bey allegedly raced toward her and shot her several times, according to the police.
According to the authorities, David returned fire and took a bullet to the face.
When Cobb-Bey pulled down close to Highway 121 in Lewisville, a city roughly thirty miles north of Dallas, authorities stated he was being pursued by officers after he had fled onto northbound Interstate 35.
With the shotgun in one hand, Cobb-Bey exited the car and walked up to the cops, aiming the pistol at them. He was hit by six police officers’ bullets, killing him, according to the authorities.
David Farmer’s health is still serious but stable, according to authorities, and Farmer was treated and discharged from the hospital on Friday.
There were no injuries to any officers during the last gunfight.
Investigators claimed to have discovered evidence on social media, and police stated that the shootings seemed to have been planned.
Authorities added that a 9mm and a.22 caliber handgun that belonged to the suspect were also found by the police.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the special investigations unit of the Dallas Police Department are both conducting investigations.
