Early on Monday morning, the charter plane carrying the Pittsburgh Steelers from Las Vegas had to make an emergency landing in Kansas City, Missouri.
On social media, a Steelers representative wrote that everyone on the plane was safe and that the team was “making the necessary preparations to arrive back in Pittsburgh later today.”
According to several Pittsburgh media reports, an engine’s loss of oil pressure caused the plane to land at KCI Airport at 3:55 a.m. CT. According to Pittsburgh CBS station KDKA, which had a TV crew on board the aircraft, fire vehicles were on the site examining the Airbus A330-900.
Following their 23-18 victory over the Raiders on Sunday night, the Steelers were headed back to their home city. Veteran defensive tackle for the Steelers Cam Heyward joked on social media platform X that teammate Minkah Fitzpatrick’s “roughing the passer call” was the reason for the emergency landing.
Heyward also made light of the fact that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who attended Sunday’s game in Kansas City at Travis Kelce’s invitation, could be needed to get the Steelers home.
FlightAware reports that the Steelers’ replacement aircraft, which had 182 passengers on board, departed from Pittsburgh at 10:29 a.m. CT and arrived at 1:19 p.m. ET.
Following their victory on Sunday, the Steelers, who are now 2-1, received a Monday off from head coach Mike Tomlin. Next Sunday, they play the Texans in Houston.
