Finally has answers for Natalee Holloway's family, 18 years after she vanished

Beth Holloway now understands what happened to her child Natalee in Aruba in 2005, after a lengthy period of uncertainty.

In a federal courtroom in Birmingham on Wednesday, Joran van der Sloot, now 36, admitted guilt to charges of wire fraud and extortion. He had long been suspected of being the person responsible for Natalee Holloway’s death. As part of the plea agreement, van der Sloot promised to inform Beth Holloway of her daughter’s death and the location of her body.

Natalee vanished while visiting the Dutch Caribbean island for her high school graduation. The 18-year-old’s last known companion was van der Sloot. Authorities in Aruba never succeeded in compiling a case despite the fact that he was a suspect from the start.

However, while van der Sloot was already in prison in Peru for the murder of a college girl, Stephany Flores, in his hotel room in Lima, federal prosecutors in Alabama had accused him of extortion and wire fraud in 2010.

According to the accusation, van der Sloot tried to pay Beth Holloway $250,000 in exchange for information and specifics about Natalee’s death.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona stated, “Today, the United States held Joran van der Sloot liable for his scheme to exploit a mother seeking information about her missing daughter.”

It wasn’t the guilty plea that Beth Holloway had hoped to see. In her statement to media outside the courthouse, she said, “I can tell you with clarity that after 18 years, Natalie’s case is solved in my opinion. “It is finished, finished. The prime suspect in my daughter’s slaying is no longer Joran van der Sloot. He is the assassin.

Holloway promised more information about what van der Sloot did the night her daughter was slain. She did, however, claim in court that he beat her after she refused his advances and dropped her body in the water. She addressed van der Sloot directly, saying, “You are a killer, and I want you to keep in mind that every time you see that cell door close.”

Van der Sloot was given a 20-year prison term by a judge. He will first be sent back to Peru to finish his sentence for killing Flores. He won’t have to come back to the United States to fulfill his sentence for wire fraud and extortion if he serves more than 20 years there.
