A new Barbie doll features the likeness of Stevie Nicks, a former member of the rock band Fleetwood Mac, but the singer-songwriter is a fake.
A video uploaded to Instagram on Monday by the entertainment business Live Nation revealed that the 75-year-old gave her Barbie doll, which she dubbed “Stevie Barbie,” to fans at her Madison Square Garden concert in New York City on Sunday.
Barbie brand owner Mattel put the doll available for preorder on Monday for $55, but it has since sold out.
The Barbie Music Series doll, which is made by Mattel, features smokey eyes, bangs, and Nicks’ distinctive ribboned tambourine. She’s dressed in a flowing black dress modeled by the one Stevie Nicks wore on the classic “Rumours” album cover from her band in 1977, and she’s accessorized with her trademark golden moon necklace and platform boots.
“We wanted to send Stevie Nicks the greatest birthday wishes for her 75th birthday. So, in order to recreate her signature style, we made a Barbie doll, stated Mattel in a statement on Monday. Nicks turned 18 in May.
Designer Bill Greening continued, “Stevie Nicks actually lent us her iconic black outfit and boots for us to utilize as references for the doll.
The new doll was shown in a post on the official Barbie Instagram account on Monday with the remark, “Soulful stage presence. enchanting manner. @StevieNicks is the newest music legend to be honored as part of the Barbie Music Series, bringing her inspirational story and successful career to artists and audiences of all ages. Her career has affected generations of music enthusiasts. Barbie says, “You can be anything.”
Nicks claimed her Stevie Barbie, which she described as “so pretty and so soulful and so real,” has been with her for a number of months and that the doll “means the world” to her in a post on X (previously Twitter) on Monday.
“I was very overwhelmed when Mattel came to me and asked if I would like to have a Barbie made in the ‘Rumours’ cover style,” she wrote. Naturally, I wondered if she resembled me. Will she accept my spirit? Would she win my love?
“When I look at her, I see my 27-year-old self. All the memories of making my stage debut wearing that black costume and those stunning boots flash through my mind, and then I recognize the person I am today in her eyes. Together, we have experienced all that has happened since 1975—the battles we have fought and the lessons we have learned. She is me, and I am her. Without a doubt, she has my heart, she continued.
