Matt Ulrich, a former star of the Indianapolis Colts and Super Bowl champion, passed away, the team’s owner Jim Irsay announced on Wednesday.

The cause of the demise is not known.

Originally from Illinois, Ulrich captained Northwestern University’s football team in 2004 before becoming an undrafted free agent and signing with the Colts the following season. The offensive guard played for the Colts for two seasons. He was a member of the 2006 squad that defeated the Chicago Bears in the 2007 Super Bowl, which also featured quarterback Peyton Manning.

Ulrich was wed and had four sons by a previous marriage.

“Our beloved, One of a kind Matt passed away and is in a better place,” his wife Alison said in a Facebook tribute, according to The Indianapolis Star.

“We adore you so much, Matt. We sincerely miss you. For just one more day, we all want you back. One more embrace. Another kiss. One more chuckle. Another joke. Another fight with the boys. Without you, it seems impossible to get through this life,” she wrote.

Ulrich was a partner and chief growth officer at Profitable Ideas Exchange in Bozeman, Montana, where he most recently resided.

According to his company bio, he participated in a Harvard football player health study and received executive education certification from Stanford as well as Harvard Business School.

Ulrich’s four children and coaching were listed as his greatest passions in his company bio.

The best part of my life and something that keeps me alert is keeping up with my four preteen sons. One of my real passions is coaching and training young athletes in our community to help them realize their full potential, Ulrich added.

“Goals never stop!” I’m also frequently spotted at the gym, where I most recently bench-pressed 505 pounds at the age of 40. He went on.

He also mentioned his great football career, saying that it taught him “the value of leadership, perseverance, and teamwork.”
