
According to a statement from the New York Police Department, Republican Inna Vernikov of the New York City Council was detained on Friday after being seen with a gun at a pro-Palestine peace protest in Brooklyn the day before.
She was accused by police of illegally possessing a gun.
After being seen “with the but-end of a firearm handgun” sticking out from the front of her jeans, Vernikov was called by police and surrendered to the 70th Precinct, according to a statement from the NYPD sent to The Hill by email.
According to images obtained at the site by numerous people, this image was posted on social media, the spokesperson claimed.
The black Smith Wesson 9mm pistol, which she is authorized to own, as well as the permit license, were both surrendered when she was effectively detained and charged, according to the NYPD. She had a gun at the first rally, but at no point was anyone threatened or hurt as a result.
