Among many others, Aaron Spears collaborated with Ariana Grande, Usher, Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears. He was a Grammy-nominated drummer and song producer. Make that 47.

On Monday, Spears’ spouse Jessica shared the news on Instagram, saying, “Aaron was not only a very talented drummer who was well recognized by many for his unmatched passion for music and talent, but he was also a loving father to our prior son, August. Our family was built on his support, warmth, and love, and his loss has left an emptiness that words cannot express.

“We were fortunate to have him in our lives, and his legacy will endure via the lovely rhythms he composed and the love he shared with us,” she went on.

Spears was nominated for a Grammy for his work on Usher’s “Confessions” album in 2004. The drummer joined James Brown onstage at the Grammy Awards the next year.

The Backstreet Boys, Chaka Khan, Jordin Sparks, Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Lil Wayne, Britney Spears, Mary Mary, and, most recently, Ariana Grande are among the artists with whom Spears has toured and recorded.

In an Instagram Story post, Grande added, “I can’t wrap my head around this.” We were all extremely fortunate to have known Aaron. The fullest brilliance of the human race. Constantly cheerful, always the kindest. I feel really fortunate and grateful that our paths crossed and that we were able to spend so much precious time together.

Spears served as both the drummer and the music coordinator for Season 3 of “The Masked Singer” on television. In 2019, he also performed as the house drummer for the NBC series “Songland” pilot.

August, his son, and his wife Jessica survive Spears.
