During the mid-1970s through the ’80s, the duo—one of the most successful in rock history—released a number of hits, such as “Rich Girl,” “You Make My Dreams (Come True),” and “Maneater”.

In Nashville Chancery Court, Hall filed the lawsuit, which addresses “contract/debt,” according to online court records. Because the case is sealed, the specifics of the disagreement are unknown.

Nov. 17 saw the issuance of a temporary restraining order that Hall had filed in addition to the lawsuit. On Monday, Oates and his reliable people received a summons.

NBC News has contacted Hall’s lawyer and their representatives for a response.

According to their website, the couple met while they were both students at Philadelphia’s Temple University. The two have collaborated on 21 albums, and they were admitted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003.

Although they never formally split up, the two have also pursued solo careers and are presently on separate tours.
