Harry Styles has stopped wearing his hair in the same way.
According to images obtained by TMZ, the Grammy-winning singer recently bid adieu to his well-known curly mop in favor of a new buzz cut.
The outlet claims that the 29-year-old star of Don’t Worry Darling chose to rock the dramatic new look while hanging out with the actress Taylor Russell, who is rumored to be his girlfriend, at a U2 concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Styles’ decision to shave off his brunette curls is unknown (he was last spotted in public with the longer ‘do in September), but one thing is certain: fans are lamenting the star’s signature appearance.
Styles’ hair has seen many changes over the years, such as when he opted to rock shoulder-grazing strands in 2015. His coiffed, textured waves, however, have endured for the past few years thanks to the singer’s massive Love on Tour concert series.
Styles’ hairstylist Ayae Yamamoto, who created her on-stage looks, was interviewed by PEOPLE back in July about how she treated a man with such respect.
“I love his hair so much! I have to keep in mind that he moves a lot on stage and is an extremely spirited performer when getting ready. When doing his hair, I have to consider the way he shakes his hair during his performance,” Yamamoto said.
“I really think about the show’s location and the weather right now; for an outdoor show, the humidity matters. We begin with wet hair, and in an effort to combat movement and perspiration, I try to use drying products. Products that will keep his hair looking shiny and natural at all times are what I’m looking for, not necessarily ones that are water-resistant because I don’t want his hair to appear dry. His hair may go flat if there isn’t enough product applied, but it can also occasionally become extremely curly. It should maintain its volume and curl, please.”
Naturally, Yamamoto felt some pressure to do it well because she was in charge of one of the most well-known hairstyles in the world.
“His hair has such a strong fan base! That gave me anxiety at first. But these days, I receive a lot of kind messages, which makes me very happy. Every time someone says something nice about Harry’s hair, I take it as a compliment and feel like I’m doing something right. I want to treat them well because they are such huge fans and they have such intimate knowledge of Harry’s hair, and I have grown to love Harry as well.”
