The “Boyfriend” in question might no longer be Darius Jackson.
Following Keke Palmer’s collaboration with Usher on his new song “Boyfriend,” a source claims that her ex-boyfriend, actor and fitness instructor Darius Jackson, is now taking fresh actions of his own.
Jackson, who gained notoriety in July when he openly critiqued Palmer’s outfit on a social media picture of the actress dancing with Usher as he serenaded her during his Las Vegas residency, has “moved on,” a source tells PEOPLE.
Photos of Palmer, 29, wearing a transparent dress to the performance prompted him to write, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom,” in response. After receiving criticism, Jackson canceled his Twitter account 24 hours later.
Since the incident, the couple—who welcomed son Leodis Andrellton Jackson in February—have not been seen together, though Palmer has been busy with professional commitments.
Neither party has publicly discussed the status of their relationship. Palmer’s representative declined to comment.
The insider said that Jackson is eager to put the turmoil behind him and is concentrating on a career as an actor. The insider continues: “You don’t have to be in a similar household to be good parents.” In terms of co-parenting, the couple is succeeding.
Palmer and Usher shared a teaser trailer for their song “Boyfriend” on Tuesday, which included clips of the actor and the R&B singer. The trailer was posted on YouTube and social media. Palmer posted about it on X, the platform that replaced Twitter.
According to the YouTube credits, the whole video was shot in Las Vegas and debuted on Wednesday. Usher can be heard singing in the promo teaser, “Somebody said that your boyfriend’s looking for me/Oh that’s cool.”
Usher expressed his own opinions about the circumstance in an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month, calling it “a pop moment” & “worth talking about.”
“I believe that everyone has a different interpretation of what they perceived to have occurred there, but it all comes down to having a great time in Las Vegas. And that’s what I’m hoping it accomplished. Instead, it was a talk about how we were having fun in front of the crowd or about that song, he claimed at the time.
He continued, “Every night, I consider how the world would respond to this interaction with anyone I choose to sing to. But it was a memorable occasion, and it was enjoyable to at least engage in light discussion. Nothing unfavorable appears to be happening in Las Vegas.
