When Keira Knightley played Elizabeth Swann in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl, at the age of 17, it undoubtedly helped launch her into her newfound fame.
She reached previously unthinkable heights of fame and became well-known throughout the Hollywood film industry thanks to the immediate hit Pirates of Caribbean.
Nevertheless, Knightley acknowledged that being a part of the well-known movie franchise made her feel “caged.”
In a 2016 interview with Variety, Keira discussed the levels of fame she experienced as a teenager and said, “I found it pretty horrific.” Since I’m not an extrovert, I found the level of attention and notoriety to be extremely difficult.
“You are becoming, you haven’t become, and you have to make mistakes at that age.” This is a highly vulnerable age, especially for women.
In certain aspects, you remain a child. Although it was traumatic, it helped me in my entire career.”
Keira acknowledged that she “really, really, really” hopes her daughter doesn’t pursue a career in acting.
“I’m hopeful that she’s going become an environmental lawyer or something amazing, but I’m going to be the kind of a parent where anything interest she has, I’m going to be helpful,” she stated.
Keira was ‘incredibly hard on herself’ in the early part of her career, which didn’t help at the time.
In a more recent interview, she said the following to the same publication: “I never felt like I was good enough. I had a completely singular focus. I had such high expectations. I had such motivation.
It’s a tiring way to live, but I was always trying to get better and better and improve. Wearying.
“I wish I had a little more of my 22-year-old self back, which is why I am so proud of her. And I only realized how remarkable it was when I stopped being like that. But there is a price for it.”
Nevertheless, the star of Pirates of Caribbean would not take anything back.
“I’m incredibly fortunate right now, and I’m in a really enjoyable place in my career with a much less intense level of fame.
“It’s great that I can handle it now. However, it wasn’t so great at the time, and it required years of therapy to work things out.”
