Rpper Kodak Black was taken into custody early on Thursday morning in Broward County on suspicion of tampering with evidence and possessing cocaine.
The musician, whose real name is Bill Kapri, was accused of possessing cocaine, breaking his probation, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, and improperly stopping, standing, and parking a car.
A Plantation Police officer was on patrol at 2:07 a.m. when they discovered a black Bentley SUV with its tail lights on parked on the road close to the 600 block off NW 47th Terrace, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS News Miami. After that, the officer pulled up to the car to have a closer look, but it stayed on the road and blocked traffic going north. After flashing their police lights, the officer got out of their vehicle and made his way over to the parked Bentley.
The officer discovered the window was only halfway down when they got to the driver’s side door and saw the lone driver, later identified as Kodak, dozing off in his seat. In addition, the officer reported in the affidavit that he smelled burnt marijuana emanating from within the vehicle and that Kodak was still breathing.
The affidavit said that when a backup officer eventually showed up, the first one opened the driver’s side door to turn off the vehicle and discovered a Styrofoam cup with an alcohol-like odor in the door handle. They also noticed suspected cannabis residue and cannabis wrapping paper all over the exposed center console.
After that, the police made Kodak get out of the vehicle and walk over to a nearby patch of grass so they could identify him by his driver’s license. He was then questioned by the police about any weapons or illegal items in the car. The affidavit said that as the first officer turned to go back to his patrol car to get Kodak’s license and registration, he looked over and noticed “white powder” falling behind him. The police car’s lights made the powder visible, according to the affidavit, which led the officers to assume that Kodak was attempting to throw away the drugs.
After seeing that Kodak’s mouth was full of white powder, the first officer went back to him to handcuff him and noticed “white rock-like substances” on the ground. Police identified the material as cocaine after testing it on the spot while the suspect was in handcuffs. Once that was done, Kodak was detained. Kodak was then searched by the police, and they discovered a clear plastic baggie in his left pocket that tested positive for cocaine as well.
After being charged and given a traffic citation, Kodak was taken to jail so that he could be booked. The affidavit states that his car was towed from the scene with front passenger side bumper and door damage indicative of a potential collision.
When oxycodone was discovered in his possession in Broward County last year, Kodak Black was also taken into custody on drug-related charges.
