Man jailed for 16 years for shooting at children throwing snowballs

A Wisconsin man was sentenced Friday to 16 years in prison for shooting at a group of children who threw snowballs at his car in 2020.

WITI-TV reports that prosecutors were seeking a 25-year prison sentence for William Carson in November after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree negligent injury and five counts of endangering safety by first-degree negligence .

According to court records, in January 2020, seven children were throwing snowballs at passing cars on Milwaukee’s north side.

Prosecutors said two of the children suffered gunshot wounds to the thigh and arm. The third child has a bullet in his jacket.

Judge Michael Hanrahan also included 10 years of extended supervision in Carson’s sentence.

“There’s this other side of you that’s impulsive, reckless, violent — I think self-centered,” Hanrahan said during Friday’s sentencing in Milwaukee.
