Margot Robbie is busier than ever. In addition to producing five films, she is gearing up for the release of Barbie next summer and an Ocean’s Eleven prequel that she is set to star in and produce as well. Until recently, she was also involved in the new Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off, though it seems that project has come to an end.

Back in 2020, it was reported that Robbie would replace Johnny Depp as the lead of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise following the publication of Amber Heard’s Washington Post op-ed, in which Heard accused the Captain Jack Sparrow actor of abusive behavior.

In May 2022, it looked like a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film was still on the cards, with Margot Robbie set to front a reboot. Around that time, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that two different scripts were in the works.

Now, Robi has offered an update on the product’s status — and it’s not good news. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actress revealed that Disney is no longer interested in developing the project, which she had a hand in developing with the help of Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodgson.

Robbie said: “We’ve had an idea and we’ve been thinking for a while that it’s going to be more female-led — not entirely female-led, but a different kind of story — than we thought. Really cool, but I think they [Disney] don’t want to do it.

Very few details of Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean production have been revealed since the announcement. We do know that the project was supposed to be a “girl power” remake that would introduce a “very key female element” to the world of Pirates of the Caribbean. Unfortunately, it looks like the product is shipwrecked. Elsewhere, Robbie recently opened up about the first leaked images from the set of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
