Mike Williams, a former NFL wide receiver, passed away at age 36 after a construction site accident

Mike Williams, a former NFL wide receiver who played most of his career for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, passed away on Tuesday, the organization confirmed.

Williams, according to NBC Sports, was 36.

In a statement, the Buccaneers expressed their sympathies to his family and friends.

“Our organization, his former teammates, and his fans are all grieving the sudden passing of Mike Williams, who left them with broken hearts. We offer his family and friends our sincere condolences as they deal with this loss.

According to NBC Sports, Williams was critically hurt in a construction accident last week.

After Williams played college football for Syracuse University, the Buccaneers selected him in the fourth round of the NFL Draft in 2010. He was dealt to the Buffalo Bills in 2014 after injuries put an end to his career at Tampa.

NBC Sports reports that he concluded his career with 223 catches for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns.
