The newest giraffe at the Tulsa Zoo has a name.
The zoo named the infant Mi-Na, which is pronounced Mee-Nah, a day before her second birthday.
Mi-Na was born to the giraffe mother Zoe, and the zoo reported that she was standing within 30 minutes after birth, which is a significant development for the health of young giraffes.
The statement was made by the zoo on National Daughter Day, which is appropriate given that Mi-Na in the Dhegiha Siouan language means “first daughter.”
The Osage Nation decided on her name. She stands seven feet tall and weighs about 215 pounds.
