In light of fire hazards, Hyundai Motor and Kia said on Thursday that they are recalling over 91,000 model year cars in the US. Owners are advised to park their cars outdoors and away from buildings while repairs are being made.

Hyundai Palisade, Sonata, Elantra, Kona, and 2023–2024 Tucson, as well as 2023–2024 Seltos and 2023 Kia Soul and Sportage vehicles, are included in the recall.

The Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly’s electronic controllers, according to the Korean automakers, may have electrical components that are broken and could lead to the pump overheating. Dealers will evaluate and replace the electronic oil pump controller as needed after notifying owners in late September.

Hyundai has four complaints of comparable incidents, whereas Kia claims to have six records of possibly related heat events with no accidents or injuries. The automakers informed the NHTSA that a questionable component was taken out of production in March.

Hyundai stated that heat damage could result in a short circuit that affects other onboard car controllers in addition to the fire danger.
