Brazil legend Pele has thanked Kylian Mbappe for his wishes and said he was delighted the France star had broken one of his records.
Mbappe has asked his Twitter followers to “pray for the king” as he is ill as he is suffering from cancer and was recently hospitalized with heart problems.
Pele wrote back: “Thank you, [Mbappe]. I’m happy to see you break another record in this cup, my friend!”
Mbappe broke Pele’s record by scoring twice to help France beat Poland in the quarter-finals. He is the first player to score 9 World Cup goals before the age of 24, surpassing record holder Pele.
The 23-year-old will be hoping to extend his record by helping England beat England in Saturday’s quarter-finals.
