
Following the Georgia shooting at Apalachee High School, authorities in the state and beyond have had to deal with a number of threats pertaining to potential school shootings.
One day after the tragedy, on Thursday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced that its officers had been called into multiple situations involving threats at other schools.
“Parents and students are going through a really trying moment, and many are terrified. The GBI stated on X that “you’ve probably seen reports of other students making threats at schools around GA today.”
The agency stated, “We take every occurrence seriously, and the police in each of these cases filed charges and made arrests.”
A 14-year-old was detained in Gainesville, Georgia, on suspicion of “going to social media and referencing threats and actions,” according to the police. The juvenile, whose identity has not been released, is being detained on suspicion of posing a terrorist threat and interfering with the running of a public school.
This happened after suspect Colt Gray, 14, was taken into custody on Wednesday after he opened fire at Winder’s Apalachee High School, killing two instructors and two pupils and injuring nine more. On Thursday night, authorities declared that the father of the suspect had also been taken into custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.
It is imperative that the state unite and maintain its vigilance at this time. The GBI stated on X that students should be assisted and encouraged to speak with a staff member about any concerns they may have regarding suspicious activities.
The department would to comment on whether the shooting threats were connected to this week’s Apalachee shooting. Threats of violence against schools have been frequent.
Several schools in Sioux County, Iowa, were placed on lockdown on Thursday following the report of “a threat being discovered at Sioux Center High School.”
Every building in the Sioux Center School District was placed on lockdown due to the threat, and neighboring municipalities Hull, Orange City, Hawarden, and Rock Valley also went into lockdown as a precaution. In a statement, Superintendent Gary McEldowney of the Sioux Center Community School District said, “After a careful study, we are certain that the threat has been eliminated.”
Pulaski County Public Schools in Virginia made the announcement on Thursday night that all of its offices and schools will be closed on Friday. The district received notification from law enforcement that “At some point tomorrow, there have been several threats to damage the PCPS school division.”
The shutdown was made “for the safety of our children until we have more details,” and those threats are still being looked into.
Colt Gray was charged with four counts of murder as an adult when he appeared in court on Friday morning. Following him was his father, Colin Gray, who was charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.
