The head of a Detroit synagogue was discovered murdered and stabbed outside her residence early on Saturday, according to authorities.
Authorities stated that a homicide investigation was being conducted into Samantha Woll‘s death. She was the leader of the Isaac Agree Downtown Detroit Synagogue.
According to a statement from the police, her body had many stab wounds.
On Saturday morning, in the Lafayette Park area, police officers responded to a complaint of a person who was unresponsive and laying on the ground. They went to the 1300 block of Joliet Place.
At the scene, she was pronounced deceased. Officers discovered a blood trail “leading them to the victim’s residence, which is believed to be the scene of the crime,” according to the statement.
Police stated that they do not yet know what caused the murder. James White, the chief of the Detroit police, cautioned the public against drawing conclusions before the investigation is complete.
Naturally, there are a lot of unsolved mysteries surrounding this incident. White made a post-Saturday night on X, formerly Twitter. “This matter is under investigation, and I am requesting that everyone exercise patience while investigators carefully review every aspect of the relevant evidence,” White stated.
“An update on the probe will be coming tomorrow,” he stated.
According to the Detroit Free Press, which broke the news of Woll’s passing, she had been in charge of the Isaac Agree Synagogue since last year.
The synagogue posted a statement on its social media accounts saying, “We are devastated and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Samantha Woll, our Board President,” and added that it was at this time unaware of any other details.
Woll had previously worked on several election campaigns for Michigan Democrats, which includes state attorney general Dana Nessel, and for U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin before taking over as the head of the downtown synagogue.
Nessel released a statement in which she expressed her astonishment, sadness, and horror at learning of Sam’s horrible death. Sam was the most kind-hearted person I’ve ever known. Her real love for her neighborhood, state, and nation drove her. Sam genuinely improved the world for everyone via her actions and faith.
In a statement, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said Woll’s passing “has left a significant void in the Detroit community. Her family, friends, and the entire city are all in mourning over her untimely passing.
According to Detroit’s Jewish Community Ties Council/American Jewish Committee, Woll was a fervent advocate for improving ties between Muslims and Jews outside of the synagogue.
A spokesman for the company released a statement in which she said, “We feel sorrow for her family and our community.” “She will forever be recognized as a ray of sunlight for everyone who knew her.”
