Sunday’s Wimbledon men’s final was Kate, the Princess of Wales’s first public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Kate, 42, is a huge tennis enthusiast and has been a regular at the Royal Box for a long time. She frequently goes with her husband, Prince William, and other royal family members. Pippa Middleton Matthews, 40, her sister, and 9-year-old daughter Charlotte accompanied her this year.
When Kate arrived at Wimbledon’s Centre Court, she was met with a standing ovation prior to the Grand Slam final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. Kate was wearing a long purple dress.
Since announcing earlier this year that she was receiving cancer treatment, Kate has made few public appearances. In recent months, William, 42, and their kids George, 10, Charlotte, and Louis, 5, have likewise mostly avoided the spotlight.
But Kate was there at the London Trooping the Colour event last month, which honors King Charles III’s official birthday with a yearly military ceremony.
She provided an update on her cancer treatment in a written statement prior to her appearance, stating that she was “not out of the woods yet” and that she experienced “good days and bad days.” Although she was “making good progress,” she added that a few more months of treatment were ahead of her.
After the palace announced that Kate would be taking a break from public duties following scheduled stomach surgery in January, her health had become the focus of much conjecture and fanciful conspiracy theories.
In response to the months of intense rumors, the future king of Britain’s wife made a video announcement in March stating that she was receiving chemotherapy and had cancer.
Following her father-in-law, King Charles III, who revealed his own cancer diagnosis in February, she made her revelation. Despite the palace’s denial that he has prostate cancer, doctors found the illness after he was admitted to the hospital due to an enlarged prostate.
The 75-year-old queen and Kate have chosen not to disclose the specific forms of cancer they have or the specifics of their prognoses.
Since returning to public life this month, Charles has attended a number of events, including commemoration services for D-Day in France.
A few hours after Kate left the tennis event, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing that William would support England against Spain in the soccer final of Euro 2024 in Berlin.
William, the president of the Football Association of England, witnessed the team’s earlier matches against Switzerland and Denmark as they advanced to the championship game.
