A second American tourist has now gone missing, while the hunt for the former California sheriff’s deputy who disappeared while on vacation in Greece on Tuesday is still ongoing.
Albert Calibet, who left the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2018 to retire, vanished shortly before leaving for Amorgos, a place his family claimed he had traveled to frequently since 2009. Calibet missed his appointment with a friend, so someone filed a missing persons report.
According to family friend Robin Leon, “He knows this path, he knows this island,” NBC News NOW said. “On that island, everyone knows Albert, even the mayor and every cafe. They adore him.
In a Facebook post, the Amorgos municipality stated that Calibet, 59, had traveled the path from the Asphontylite region to the Katapola town. When he vanished, he was dressed in dark shirts and Bermuda shorts, according to the authorities.
According to NBC News NOW, Sandrine Cutwright, Calibet’s sister-in-law, “It grows increasingly depressing with each passing minute and hour.”
Days after Calibet vanished, a second American tourist in Greece was reported missing, according to reports. According to ABC News, the unidentified man had been staying with a friend at a taverna in Mathraki, which is west of Corfu Island, when he was last seen on Tuesday.
According to the site, the friend found the house’s door open, the lights on, and the air conditioner running when he got home on Thursday. He then called the police. Travel documentation and the missing man’s ID had vanished, ABC News said, citing detectives.
The bodies of British television presenter and proponent of healthy living Michael Mosley were discovered by Greek authorities in a rocky region on the Greek island of Symi a few days prior to both disappearances.
Last week, Mosley, 67, went on a solitary walk in the intense heat and did not return. This led to his being reported missing. He died, according to investigators, of natural causes.
