At last, Sha’Carri Richardson will have the opportunity to win gold.
One of the top track and field talents in the United States, Richardson won the 100 meters on Saturday at the Olympic trials at Hayward Field with a time of 10.71. This year, it was the world’s fastest women’s 100-meter time.
The two finalists, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry, respectively, qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. At Star Athletics, the three of them train together.
Richardson stated, “It unquestionably confirmed the year that we’ve been training for, preparing for.” “I can’t wait to move forward with my girls,”
In her semifinal heat, Richardson finished with a timing of 10.86, and on Friday, she ran the quickest time of all 34 sprinters in the initial round, 10.88. Her time was especially remarkable given that she had trouble getting going.
Following her victory on Friday, Richardson told NBC, “It wasn’t the start for which I had been preparing.” But even so, remain calm and patient. and understand that I should keep running my race regardless of what happens.
After one of the greatest years in American history for a sprinter, Richardson, 24, enters the Paris Games. At the global championships in Budapest in August, she set an event record with a 10.65. The 35-year-old world record of 10.49 set by Florence Griffith-Joyner is still in place.
At the global championships, Richardson also won gold in the 4×100-meter relay and bronze in the 200-meter event.
Richardson, who was not selected for the 2020 Olympics, will get the opportunity to make amends in Paris. Although she was cleared to compete in Tokyo after testing positive for THC, she was disqualified from the trials that year. She claimed to have consumed it following the passing of her mother on NBC’s “TODAY” program.
Richardson stated at the time, “I made that choice even though I knew what I did and what I should have done.” “In my situation, I’m not seeking sympathy or an explanation. But given my circumstances and the way my mother and I relate to each other, learning anything of that nature and dealing with it definitely weighed heavily on me.
Noah Lyles, another favorite to win a gold medal, will move on to the men’s 100-meter semifinals on Sunday night. With a time of 9.92 on Saturday, he won his opening round heat.
Next week, Lyles will compete in the 200 meters as well. His goal is to become the “fastest man on Earth,” a title that hasn’t been held by an American in 28 years.
Following the race, Lyles declared, “I would definitely say that’s the best I’ve felt” in a first round. “I felt like I had everything this year. When I want something, I execute it, and it happens.
Lyles stated that he wants to run a time of less than 9.7 in both the semifinal and final.
He declared, “I really want to get to that range.” It will happen based on what we’ve observed in training. All you have to do is concentrate, let your body take control, and run to win rather than racing against the clock.
Ryan Crouser, the shot putter, will be able to attempt for his third consecutive title after winning the gold in both 2016 and 2020. With a throw of 22.84 meters on Saturday, he won the shot put final. Joe Kovacs (22.43) and Payton Otterdahl (22.26) will be teammates with him.
Women’s triple jump champions Jasmine Moore, Keturah Orji, and Tori Franklin all punched their tickets by winning the farthest distances. Moore placed 23rd in the Tokyo Olympics of 2020.
