Actor and inspiration for Robert Altman, Shelley Duvall, passes away at age 75

Actor Shelley Duvall of “The Shining” passed away in her Blanco, Texas, home on Thursday, according to her companion Dan Gilroy. She was seventy-five.

According to Gilroy, Duvall’s difficulties from diabetes had forced him into hospice care and bedridden for the past few months. He told the phone that she passed away while sleeping.

Gilroy remarked, “After much agony, she’s gone. You have no idea how much I miss her.”

Duvall’s most well-known performances were in the 1980 comedy “Popeye” starring Robin Williams and the iconic horror film “The Shining” with Jack Nicholson. Her first appearance on movie was in Robert Altman’s 1970 comedy “Brewster McCloud,” which she is well-known for collaborating with. Variety noted this.

“McCabe & Mrs. Miller,” “Thieves Like Us,” “Nashville,” “Buffalo Bill and the Indians,” and “Annie Hall” were among the other pieces.

She was named best actress at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in “3 Women.”
