The preliminary autopsy of a lifetime supporter of the New England Patriots who passed away during a “scuffle” at an NFL game did not “suggest traumatic injury, yet confirmed a medical issue,” officials said.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office reported that 53-year-old Dale Mooney of New Hampshire passed away after a “scuffle” during Sunday night’s Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins match at Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium. Prosecutors claimed that after collapsing, Mooney was brought to a hospital.
Witness According to Joseph Kilmartin, Mooney “basically grabbed another fan,” as reported by the Boston ABC affiliate WCVB. They got into a brief round of fighting. A second supporter eventually approached. He punched him, and [Mooney] immediately left.
Kilmartin admitted that it was difficult to watch.
The cause and manner of Mooney’s death are “undetermined pending additional testing,” the district attorney’s office announced on Wednesday.
Lisa Mooney, Mooney’s wife, said to WCVB, “I want to know what happened…. What caused this?”
On Wednesday, prosecutors confirmed that the probe was still ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or had video of it was requested to contact the investigators at 781-830-4990 by the prosecution.
The loyal Patriots fan and 30-year season ticket holder Dale Mooney passed away tragically, according to a statement from Gillette Stadium authorities.
Officials at the stadium said, “We continue to cooperate with regional investigators to support them in their continuing investigation. We offer Dale’s family and everyone else who is grieving his loss our deepest sympathy and sorrow.
