According to French officials, rapper Travis Scott was taken into custody on Friday after an alleged altercation at a five-star hotel in downtown Paris between him and his personal bodyguard and a security guard.
The Paris prosecutor’s office released a statement, saying, “I can confirm that rapper Travis Scott was taken into custody by police on August 9, 2024, after they were called to the George V hotel for allegedly attacking a security guard.”
“The rapper and his bodyguard had been separated by the security guy who had stepped in. The statement claimed, “The case has been referred to the 1st district of the judicial police by the Paris public prosecutor’s office,” but it provided no other information.
Scott, 33, whose true name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, was snapped Thursday night in the stands during the men’s Olympic basketball semifinal, where the American team overcame a late deficit to win by a slim margin of 4 points, moving them on to the final and a chance to win gold.
With views of the Eiffel Tower and close to the well-known Champs-Élysées in Paris, the George V hotel is home to several Michelin-starred restaurants.
Scott allegedly yelled at individuals on a yacht in Miami Beach, Florida, leading to his arrest in June on a charge of disorderly drunkenness. According to his lawyer, the whole thing was just a “misunderstanding.”
Scott has not responded to the arrest or spoken in public. The Associated Press stated it had reached out to Scott’s representative but had not heard back.
