After his trial was postponed several times, Jonathan Majors made his video appearance in court today. The current date for his trial is November 29. The charges against him are misdemeanors for harassment and assault. The actor might spend up to a year in jail if found guilty.

Majors was regarded as one of Hollywood’s most promising young talents just a year or so ago. The actor, who turned 34 lately, attended Yale School of Drama for his education and has been entertaining viewers in high-profile TV series and motion pictures for the past several years.

He was the antagonist in Creed III, the popular Rocky movie, and the hero in HBO’s Lovecraft Country. And Majors was slated to become a well-known star after being chosen to play a significant role as a villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Several loving biographies were written on him, including one on NPR that referred to him as “the boyfriend of the internet.”

All that changed, though, on March 25, when Majors was taken into custody in New York following accusations that he had assaulted a lady in a “domestic dispute.” She said he had pulled her finger, twisted her arm, struck her, and shoved her so hard into the car that she had fallen on the sidewalk. The girlfriend had minor injuries treatment at a hospital, as per police reports. She is not mentioned in any court documents.

Majors entered a not-guilty plea to the counts of misdemeanor assault, attempted assault, aggravated harassment, and harassment. (A further accusation of strangling was subsequently dismissed). His attorney, Priya Chaudhry, has defended her client’s innocence and told NPR that the complainant is actually the one who is at fault.

Majors’ management and PR firm both reportedly fired him shortly after the allegations were brought. Since then, negative coverage of the actor’s off-screen conduct—both in his personal life and on set—has continued to harm his reputation.

Majors showed up for a hearing in a Manhattan courtroom in June. Although his attorney claimed to have “compelling evidence” to support Majors’s case, Judge Rachel Pauley’s sealed ruling caused Chaudhry to remove court documents disputing the accuser’s claims. The specifics of that choice are still unknown. The actor was wished “best of luck” by the judge when his trial was set.

The event destroyed Majors’ chances of getting work in Hollywood. Soon after it was made public, he was taken out of a U.S. Army marketing campaign, and Marvel has played down Majors’ role in a number of planned projects. It was originally planned for his character, Kang the Conquer, to be the main antagonist of the MCU’s “Multiverse Saga.” However, Majors is hardly visible in the teaser for the upcoming second season of Marvel Studios’ TV series Loki. Additionally, it has delayed the release dates of the next two Avengers films, Secret Wars and The Kang Dynasty, which were supposed to star Majors.

It is simple to compare her to another rising celebrity whose career took a turn for the worst earlier this summer. With his breakthrough performance in The Flash, Ezra Miller was tipped to become the face of a successful DC franchise. Nonetheless, many have cited their legal troubles and off-screen disputes as contributing factors to the film’s June release’s status as one of the all-time largest box office failures.
